मुस्लिमों के सबसे पवित्रतम शहर मक्का का खर्च यहां आने वाले लाखों जायरीन (हज यात्रियों)  से प्राप्त कर द्धारा चलता है।, प्राचीन काल से ही मक्का धर्म और व्यापार का केंद्र रहा है। यह एक सँकरी, बलुई तथा अनुपजाऊ घाटी में बसा है, जहां वर्षा कभी-कभी ही होती है। नगर का खर्च यात्रियों से प्राप्त कर द्वारा पूरा किया जाता है।, इस पवित्र हज यात्रा पर जो भी जायरीन आता है, वह इस विशाल मस्जिद के मध्य मे स्थित काबा के 7 परिक्रमाएं जरूर लगाता है, और फिर इसके बाद इसें चूमते हैं इसे तवाफ नाम की रस्म से जाना जाता है।, ऐसी मान्यता है कि प्रत्येक हज यात्री द्धारा तवाफ की रस्म अदायगी के बाद ही उनकी हज यात्रा संपन्न मानी जाती है और ऐसा करना वाला शख्स की जिंदगी सफल हो जाती है, वह धन्य हो जाता है।, इस पवित्र काबा के पूर्वी कोने में भूमि से करीब 5 फीट की ऊंचाई पर एक पवित्र काला पत्थर स्थित है, आपको बता दें कि यह पवित्र काबा की संरचना सोने एवं काले पत्थर से बनी हुई है, जो कि देखने में बेहद आर्कषक है। तवाफ की रस्म यानि की काबा के परिक्रमा लगाते वक्त जायरीन काबा के कोने के पत्थरों को चूमते हैं।, आज से हजारों साल पहले पैगम्बर हजरत मोहम्मद साहब द्धारा बसाए गए इस पवित्र तीर्थ स्थल में दुनिया के कोने-कोने से मुस्लिम धर्म के लोग आते हैं और अल्लाह की इबादत कर अपने गुनाहों की माफी मांगते हैं एवं सुख-शांति की दुआ मीटर में फैली भव्य मस्जिद के चारों ओर पुरातात्विक महत्व के खंभे बने हुए हैं, जिसका निर्माण हजरत इब्राहिम ने किया था। कई महान इस्लामिक जानकारों के अनुसार  इस विशाल मस्जिद के पास से ही हजरत मुहम्मद साहब
